PETALING JAYA: The national aquatics coach arrested yesterday over the alleged rape of a trainee last month has been remanded for four days.

Kuala Lumpur police chief Amar Singh was quoted by the New Straits Times as saying the 35-year-old was alleged to have raped the trainee on Sept 26 at the National Sports Complex in Bukit Jalil.

It was earlier reported that the man had been detained after the victim lodged a police report on Sunday.

The New Straits Times, quoting sources, said the man was from China, while the victim was a backup diver for the Malaysian team in the recent SEA Games.

The coach is believed to have been with the national team since 2012.

He is reportedly married to a Malaysian and holds permanent resident status.
