The head of the motorcycle activist group said, judging from a one-minute video clip, the bikers sorely needed the assistance of local authorities to let their convoy pass safely through the intersection.
“Even if their convoy was assisted by police, they still have to stop if the traffic lights turn red.
“This should not be happening anywhere, not only in Thailand but also in Malaysia.”
The video clip shows several Malaysian motorcyclists, believed to be marshals of the convoy, without the help of local authorities, blocking other vehicles at the busy traffic junction to let their convoy of motorcycles pass through.
This took place at the Lumphu intersection, Muang district, Narathiwat province, southern Thailand, at 10.32am on Sept 22.
The incident drew sharp rebuke from Thai social media users.
Many netizens were also alarmed at the high speed the big and powerful motorcycles were speeding through the traffic intersection.
Azlan said it gave bad vibes for Malaysian bikers who loved to go in a convoy to Thailand.
Bernama reported yesterday that a motorcycle group in Kelantan had sent a letter of apology to the Narathiwat governor for the incident.
It said the convoy of 57 bikers was visiting tahfiz schools and mosques in Thailand to have better ties and convey assistance to them.
