PETALING JAYA: Syed Saddiq Abdul Rahman today claimed that he was being blackmailed to quit PPBM by certain quarters who had threatened to expose several “sensitive pictures” of him.

The party’s youth chief said several pictures, which he described as an attack on his “dignity”, were sent to his phone at 1.30am today.

“I couldn’t sleep the entire night,” he said at a press conference, adding that his father and brother had been threatened in a similar manner before.

He has since lodged a police report.

Syed Saddiq also refused to reveal if the pictures were lewd in nature but said it was personal in nature.

He said the sole purpose was to pressure him and his family to stop what he was doing.

“I also believe that this is no coincidence. It was planned by a group of people and not an individual,” he said.

He believed that it was due to his refusal to attack the PPBM leadership and also to pressure him to leave the country.

At a media conference on Monday, Syed Saddiq had claimed that he was offered RM5 million by a “senior adviser of the prime minister” to leave his party and take up post-graduate studies overseas.

He said the “bribe” included grants to help him set up debate schools in the country.

He also claimed that he was told to criticise PPBM chairman Dr Mahathir Mohamad, its president Muhyiddin Yassin and deputy president Mukhriz Mahathir, and paint the party’s struggle as one which was aimed at benefitting the leaders rather than the common people.
